| Academic team is one of the more unknown teams here at RHS, for when most people think of JROTC, they think of marching, rifles, shooting and drill teams. But we do have a Academic team as well. Academic team is a more low-impact team then others, seeing as how your competitions are generally indoors and involves more using your minds and knowledge then your muscles, but we play a strong role as well. Academic team members are generally more up-to-date on current events and have more general knowledge about current events, US History, the Constitution, laws, various facets of the military, and many other topics. The people who do best here are those who have the most general knowledge. Memorizing wont do you much good here, there's too much ground to cover.
This year's Academic team for JROTC consists of, at the moment, myself, c/1LT Trimble, and c/1LT Hudson (on an interim basis). We generally have 5-8 cadets on this team, though last year we had 4. I would like to get more cadets involved in this, seeing as how Academic Team hasn't really done anything in the past besides last year, in which we placed 6th in the only competition we went to, and got the only medal we came back with. That team consisted of myself, c/1LT Hudson, c/CPT Hugo Contrares, and c/CPT Spencer Martinez. Seeing as how the latter 2 no longer attend RHS, I would love to get at least 2 more people in this team, preferably 3 to 5. If you're interested, please let me, c/LTC Patterson (your Battalion Commander, in other words), Sgt Kruschke, or Captain Harris know, and we will see about getting you up to speed and on the team.

| Well, thats one of the weird things about us, last year, we never really practiced, cause there's just so much stuff that we need to know, you can't really practice, at least, not with any method I've been able to come up with. Best way to do well on Academic team is to pay attention in history classes and stay updated on current events.
And know the Cadet Creed by heart, be able to say it slowly and very deliberately, without leaving out any words, even the little ones like "and" and "to." Doing well in the Cadet Creed can make or break a competition team.

| A good suggestion Provided we have time for this Soon as things calm down a bit (maybe around Wednesday) I'll have a meeting for everyone who's interested just to see who and what we're dealing with. | |

| Defenitely run this whole meeting thing by the BC, first though. As I'm pretty sure we're pretty much COMPLETELY booked on everything through the next week or two... | |

| I wouldn't mind an Academic meeting, HOWEVER, there is not an academic competition at Louisville(sp) so don't make it top priority. It would be best to wait until next Friday to keep members focused on teams that are competing. | |

| Yes sir, I will do that. I didn't think that Louisville had one, so we'll start with meetings after Louisville. | |

| I might join...but it just depends on if Sarah is going to actually practice with Unarmed Drill...or if i get the chance between unarmed and colorguard I just don't want to be overwhelmed with teams And btw...how much would we have to study? ? I've been told that it is like a HUGE book or something?!?! | |

| Warwick there will be an unarmed but this is the academics thread you don't need to ask about unarmed on here.
Oh and Buisman, Academics team isn't hard. Yes you do have to remember a lot of random information. But it won't be taking time away from other teams so you can still be on it if you want.
